The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas is recognized for its commitment to educating and training residency graduates fully capable of entering general orthopedic surgical practice, or successfully competing for top fellowship programs. The clinical staff includes ten M.D. orthopedic surgeons and the research staff a Ph.D. engineer and a M.D., Ph.D. molecular biologist. Each resident has a four month block of protected research time during the third year and is mentored in the research process. The Department's academic activities are augmented by substantial endowment funds. Student clinical and research electives are available, and a post-doctoral position in molecular orthopedics is under development.
